The woke revolution is devouring our children
From indoctrination to the theft of childhood innocence
Revolutions have a tendency to devour their children, as Jacques Mallet du Pan wrote of the French Revolution in 1793. They also prey upon other people’s children, as Bethany Mandel and Karol Markowicz say our woke revolution is doing in their new book “Stolen Youth.”
The book serves as a manual to help parents navigate a woke world hellbent on devouring their children. The authors describe a revolution-scale ideological capture of education, entertainment and publishing by the “radical progressive Left” or “the woke,” who sexualize every story and racialize every subject in school. The revolution has even captured the medical profession and used it as a tool of compliance and control.
At the pinnacle of the woke revolutionary pyramid seems to be the agenda to transform the way people think and act about gender and sex. Mandel tells the story of a San Francisco parent whose child was sexualized and indoctrinated into transgenderism in a seventh grade health class. “It gave these kids highly sexualized labels…polyamorous, bi-gender…and the eleven- and twelve-year-old girls picked a label; it became cool. Nobody wanted to be the cis-basic kid; that’s boring.”
Mandel wrote about the woke takeover of children’s entertainment giants like Disney and children’s publishing giants like Scholastic, and the constant lowering of standards for appropriate content in children’s books. “Nothing is every woke enough,” she wrote.
Just as each new wave of revolutionaries disposed of the one before in the French Revolution 230 years ago, each new wave of woke “progress” finds the one before insufficiently “progressive.” Markowicz wrote of her great-grandfather who died in a Soviet gulag. “They hadn’t stepped out of line; the line shifted underneath them.”
As long as there is any standard of decency that protects the innocence of children and the natural sensibilities of men and women, it will be regarded as a barrier to “progress” by woke revolutionaries. Children were introduced to homosexual relationships between adults, then suddenly children are being exposed to graphic descriptions of children having sex. Mandel writes that woke ideology “enables abusers to harm children by giving the abusers opportunities to use politics as a way to provide moral cover…whereas overt political organizing to redefine the age of consent proved unsuccessful, new efforts in the name of childhood sexual liberation are far more discreet and sinister in nature.”
On the Joe Pags Show this week, Mandel said, “Is there no escape anywhere ever? There’s a constant barrage of woke messaging from every angle. It is a coordinated effort on every front impacting our children. Their hope is to turn our children into little warriors in their woke revolution to remake American society.” In the book she writes, “If you look at birth rates by ideological persuasion, you’ll see that it’s not progressives having kids…it’s not their kids they’re working to brainwash - it’s ours.”
Markowicz told Tucker Carlson this past week, “The cultural revolution has arrived in America…Kids are much easier to indoctrinate than adults…Every cultural revolution in history has separated the family unit first to get to the kids." In the book she discusses the Chinese Communist cultural revolution, during which children turned in their counterrevolutionary parents to Mao for execution. She discussed the “Four Olds” the Chinese Communist Cultural Revolution sought to eradicate: old habits, old ideas, old customs and old culture. And she wrote about the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, which broke children’s ties to their families and religion. In 2017 Angelina Jolie directed “First They Killed my Father,” a heart-squeezing film about that revolution.
Videos posted to TikTok by a woke activist called Jeffrey Marsh explain to children how to go “no contact” with their parents and encourage them to do so. They are the most disturbing, demonic and manipulatively hypnotic videos I have ever seen and I could not post them here in good conscience. They could easily ravage the souls of vulnerable children having issues with their parents.
If ever there was an evil spirit that could convince agnostics of the existence of a spirit world with a connection to human minds, wokeism is it.
Jesus predicted a rise in family divisions. “They will be divided, father against son and son against father.” In the Bible, Daniel and Paul speak of the rise of a spirit of antichrist that will introduce a new worship that overthrows all religions, customs, traditions and laws that came before it.
As someone who gave his life to serve God by serving families in church children’s and youth ministries, it has been a source of tremendous grief to see kids I care about get seduced into the woke cult, reject the "old ways," and give their life to a lie. And when I see other church leaders encourage them in doing so, it is frustrating to say the least.
In my view, at the root of every woke revolution is a satanic rebellion that takes something God created and turns it upside down. The ultimate “old” that humanity could ever overthrow is the gender duality in our nature. It’s not a coincidence that the recent performance at the Grammy’s by transgender and nonbinary performers was seeped in satanic symbolism. It’s not a coincidence that so many drag queens adorn satanic symbolism. If ever there was an evil spirit that could convince agnostics of the existence of a spirit world with a connection to human minds, wokeism is it.
I’ve observed that when conservatives, moderates and liberals talk about this far-left “wokeism” they don’t often stop to define it, even though it’s one of those things you know when you see it. Markowicz defines wokeism as “leftism on steroids” that “demands subservience and conformity.”
Dr. Michael Karson distinguished wokeism from wokeness, which he regards as a good thing equivalent to fairness. In Psychology Today two years ago he defined wokeism as “a system of thought and behavior characterized by intolerance, policing the speech of others, and proving one’s own superiority by denouncing others.” With this definition, many traditional religions could be defined as woke, which wouldn’t make sense given the inherent anti-tradition and anti-religion nature of wokeism.
I felt the need to probe deeper. I tried to think about what’s at the root of wokeism. What is going on deep inside the human soul that brings humans together as a collective of individuals to create movements that go far past a mere desire for fairness and equality into the realm of inhumanity - movements such as the French Revolution, the fascist and communist revolutions of the twentieth century, and today’s woke revolution.
I came up with the following definition of wokeism: The collective belief and action of a group of people who disregard nature, destroy the natural sensibilities of human beings and deny the natural rights of people in order to construct a new social order. This definition is broader than leftism and includes far-right fascism as well as far-left communism. But it has a more specific and meaningful significance than the general intolerance Dr. Karson spoke of. Perhaps my definition is too broad as well and totalitarian leftism is the best and most useful definition.
In 2021 James Bascon wrote, “We cannot hope to defeat the “transgendering” of children if we agree with the LGBT movement’s premises. Only an appeal to Divine and natural law can serve as a solid foundation upon which to build a serious counterattack. Our children’s lives depend on it.”
Last month I reported how numbers of people identifying as LGBT has been growing exponentially with each new generation and quoted Bill Maher’s point that such growth is being artificially manufactured.
In the conclusion to their book, Mandel discusses how to pull your kids out of these hostile systems, retreating into a fortress - Rod Dreher’s “Benedict Option.” She is a homeschool parent and says that is her favorite subject to talk about. Markowicz talks about how to fight from within hostile systems - or in the case of the most hostile environments, “selective flight.” In her case, they didn’t retreat to a homeschool community, but they did move from New York to Florida for their children’s well-being.
In response to the question "What can parents and concerned residents do about the woke takeover of the publishing industry and library system?" Mandel answered, “Vote with wallets. Support smaller publishers in David and Goliath fight against massive power that Scholastic, with in school book fairs, and other publishers wield…"
